What is the LABORATORY SECTION?

Laboratory Section is a healthcare unit under the Ancillary Services Department providing a wide range of laboratory procedures that aid clinicians in diagnosing and treating diseases and managing patients. The section is manned by Medical Technologists trained to perform and analyze tests on samples of biological specimens collected from patients, such as blood, urine, stool, sputum, and other body fluids.

Services Available in the Laboratory Section:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Platelet Count
  • Coagulation Tests: Procedure for PT, aPTT, and other coagulation tests.
  • Peripherals Blood Smear and Red Blood Indices
  • Clotting time/Bleeding time
  • Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
  • Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP): Procedure for analyzing electrolytes (Na+, K+, Ca++, Chloride), glucose, and other metabolites.
  • Liver Function Tests (LFTs); SGPT, SGOT, Alkaline Phosphatase, Bilirubin
  • Kidney Function Tests (Creatinine, BUN, Albumin, Phosphorus)
  • Lipoproteins: Lipid Profile
  • Glycosylated hemoglobin
  • Culturing Bacteria and Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing: Culture and Sensitivity
  • Gram Staining, AFB Staining, Wet Smear, KOH
  • Urinalysis
